Who is the Beast and the Dragon? In Revelation chapter 13 we find two entities named, the first is a "beast" and the other is a "dragon". From other passages in the Bible we can easily determine that the "dragon" mentioned here is Satan. Revelation 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." So, who is the beast? 11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he
had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of
the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship
the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he
maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, From this verse we learn that the beast is "wounded to death", in other words he died, then his deadly wound was healed. He has been brought back to life. Satan has always wanted to be just like God, "O Lucifer....For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High". At the midpoint of the tribulation Satan has made himself to appear like God, in that he has "ressurrected" the beast, much like Jesus was resurected. Satan has always tried to be a counterfeit! Notice also that the beast is is given power to continue "forty and two months", or 3 1/2
years. Therefore, we can determine that the beast will be killed and revivified at the
midpoint of the tribulation. Daniel says in 9:27 "And
he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he
shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of
abominations he shall make it desolate..." and Matthew 24 says "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by
Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place....For then shall be great tribulation, such
as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." |
